Asphodel
July 2025 disappointing results from seeds (see https://www.gardenwithoutdoors.org.uk/seeds_2024#yellow_asphodel for last year's sowing) and difficulty of buying plants, I bought all asphodel seeds I could find, knowing I probably wouldn't have good results but had to try, sowed 19-7-2025

Borage seeds sown 25-3-2025

25-3-2025 sowed 3 seeds per coir pot, 26 pots in total

borage seedlings left, poppies right

10-5-2025
these were doing so well, I had to repot them

a few of the seedlings aren't that big yet so repotting can wait a bit

14-6-2025

Catnip

I threw the catnip seeds into these 7 pots which have other seedlings and small plants so maybe won't be clear if and when the seeds germinate. They also had catnip plants before which I was hoping would regrow.

23-6-2025 I'm not really sure how these are both so big but both appear to be catnip and have Verbena hastata seedlings invading the pots

Chinese Lanterns
These are carried over from last year when I first sowed the seed. They didn't seem to do that well as they were savagely eaten by slugs but after clearing forget-me-nots in the spring, seeing the damage, removing any slugs I could see, they've perked up and seem to be growing well. I'm thinking they should stay in a pot but not sure this one is big enough.I never had them in a pot before. They were very happy in one section of my old garden but the drought and heatwaves in recent years seemed to have killed them off and by the time I moved, I hadn't seen any for 2 or 3 years but it made me keen to try to grow some more.

Drimia maritima (was Urginea maritima)
bulbs started 17-10-2024

in January / February the 3rd one had a shoot but it died back

20-9-2025 2nd one has a shoot

after seeing that one come to life, thought I should check the others, this one has a verbascum self-seeding in the pot, was curious which so I've let it grow, the drimia wasn't doing anything anyway

no signs of life from this one but with the drought and heatwave this year, nothing did well, will see if it comes to life next year

Fothergills Plantable Pellets, what a disappointment, too deep for the seedling to reach the light, all seed packets wasted
seeds sown 11-4-2025, it was a large tray so ended up with 4 seed packets sown in the "plantable pellets" as Fothergills (not Mr Fothergills now) calls them

left to right Lion's Ear (Leontis leonurus), Taraxacum faeroense, Hoary Plantain (Plantago media), Olympian Mullein (Verbascum olympicum)
